Hard drive to nowhere.
A few nights ago, I rebooted my computer. It didn't start up again. Hard drive failure, total mechanical death of the drive. At first, the drive squeaked excitedly, then it groaned a tired little groan and began seizing up.
The 80 Gig, S.M.A.R.T. enabled drive stopped my next BIOS boot, to tell me to immediately back up my data. Too late, its warning mocked me cruelly. It goes to the spare parts bin; to gather dust beside a faithful 240 Meg drive that had served for twelve long years as the heart of my previous computer.
Now, I must buy a drive and reinstall XP, then tweak and hack my OS until I get it to my liking. I'll have a totally fresh install, clean and optimized. That will be sweet.
Meanwhile, a borrowed computer, a veritable dinosaur, is a poor substitute for my electron fix. Posting will be slow for a bit.
If I can't play nerd games on my 'puter, at least I'm having fun with my electric chainsaw. I still have downed limbs from my live oak that want cutting. I've finally finished all the pine branches and the scrub oak. I'm still cleaning up after Charley.
